Wrap-up Wellness Day 2007!

From the perspective of UDS Team members.

United Disabilities Services held their second annual Wellness Day on Thursday, September 20th, from 10 -2 at the Calvin J. High Pavilion, Greenfield Corporate Center. Thankfully we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful weather day.

This was an opportunity for employees of UDS to enjoy a day of sunshine, manicures, massages and haircuts. Our thanks to the following vendors that were available throughout the day to assist employees with their various benefit questions, hand out brochures, informational tools and gifts.

Lancaster School of Massage; HealthAssurance; Horst Insurance; Hartford Life Insurance; Activities Committee; Wellness Committee; US Healthworks; Concentra; Maria Riley-Reflexology; Barb Kinsey-Massage; Lancaster School of Cosmetology; Philhaven (EAP) and Wheatland Federal Credit Union.

The members of the newly formed Wellness Committee were on hand to discuss opportunities to facilitate a successful program for 2008. We also wish to thank the people that took the time to complete a survey to best help us understand the needs and wants for a healthier, happier, more energetic workplace. Each person completing a survey were then entered in a drawing for wonderful prizes, those winners were: Kathy Wolff and Janette Mullen, Congratulations!

• As this was my first Wellness Day event, I really enjoyed the day. The opportunity to have a massage, manicure or haircut was great. The other vendors who were there provided useful information for me, and of course all the free items were great. I look forward to this event next year. • Wellness Day 2007! What a wonderful way to kick off the introduction to the new Wellness Committee being formed at UDS. UDS employees serve our neighbors with disabilities and just like anyone that serves others we must ultimately take care of our own health. It doesn't matter if you are in the homes providing for the needs of consumers or sitting at a computer terminal coordinating services, we all have to make ourselves aware of the hazards of our trades physically and mentally. The Wellness Day gave us all a time to relax from our everyday schedules, to enjoy a massage, etc., and to pick up literature on healthy subjects.
