Landis Valley Museum is a Pennsylvania living history village, interpreting Pennsylvania German life in the 18th and 19th century.
There are special events frequently, including a Harvest Days in the fall, and an Herb and Garden Faire that's one of the largest on the East Coast. Check the museum's website: www.landisvalleymuseum.org for more information, including a virtual tour of the site. It's important to emphasize that the grounds are extensive, and require traveling from building to building. Paths are hard dirt and gravel, and can be navigated in a wheelchair, but it's definitely not something to try in in the rain.
Most of the buildings are open for wheelchair users, but a few remain inaccessible. There are eight handicapped spaces available near the front entrance, four provide enough room for a vehicle with a lift. An accessible restroom is just inside the visitors center. The Museum Store provides an opportunity to purchase beautifully crafted items by local artisans, although the second floor is not accessible. There is also a shaded area near the parking lot for outdoor picnics.
Adjacent to the Landis Valley Museum is the Hands on House an interactive museum designed for kids. A "please touch" kind of place, Hands on House provides activities from science and nature lessons, a play post office and store, and face-painting. this facility is relatively new, and easily accessible. There is a picnic area available outside as well. Unfortunately, there is only one accessible parking space near the front entrance. The other spaces are shared with Landis Valley, and are across the parking lot from Hands on House. for more information, check: www.handsonhouse.org.
