Challenger Football

UDS offers a unique opportunity for children and young adults ages 5 to 25 with physical and/or developmental disabilities to participate in a football league every Saturday morning from August 13 - October 15.  Our volunteer cheerleaders arrive early to learn their cheers from 8:30am to 9:30am then the football game starts at 10:00am and ends around 11:30am.  The fundamental goal of the CFL is to give disabled youth/young adults a chance to play and be active.  CFL has two basic rules; every individual participates to their level of achievement, and every player is highlighted throughout the day with a touchdown or special cheer.  Everybody scores, and everybody wins.

CFL participants learn not only the fundamentals of football and cheerleading, but also experience pulling together as a team, being cheered on by the crowd and being encouraged by their peers.  At the end of the season, with the help of several community sponsors, UDS hosts a banquet for participants and their families where all players receive a certificate recognizing their personal achievements throughout the year and awards to remember the season.  The UDS Challenger Football League would not be possible without tremendous support from sponsors and the endless dedication of over 30 volunteers each week!

Just for the fun of it
The smiles on their faces tell it all. Some of the activities include football and cheerleading. Activities are designed to allow youth with disabilities to fully participate in both team and individual efforts, enabling them to have fun and be winners in the process.
