For individuals with challenging physical disabilities, nothing is more important than the comfort and support that their wheelchair provides. UDS understands the complex seating and positioning needs that standard off-the-shelf seating can't address. Proper head and body support is often critical to accommodate irregular musculoskeletal asymmetries and to prevent painful pressure sores. A well-designed custom seating system can contribute greatly to the overall health and wellbeing of someone with unique disability needs.
We have over 20 years experience innovating and fabricating life-enhancing adaptive seating for clients, young and old. That's why we are a leading resource for therapists, individuals, families, and caregivers throughout the Central Pennsylvania region. Creating an effective wheelchair seating system for an individual with unique physical needs involves the integration of many components.
Custom seating components include
Molded orthotic back, abductor pommel, shoulder harness, padded hip belt, foot box, adjustable head support, trunk support, carved positioning seat, elbow blocks and tray.
Our Process
Pressure-mapping
Another useful tool we offer in the field or at our Custom Wheelchair Seating facility is pressure mapping. Using the XSensor Pressure Mapping system, our specialists can assess the pressure distribution under the client as they sit on the sensor mat. The full-color computer image shows the areas with the highest and lowest pressures. Individualized reports and recommendations to reduce the incidence of pressure sores can be sent to the client's physician, therapist, clinic, and insurance carrier.
