Under the direction of the Executive Director/Program Specialist, the Safety Mentor provides training and mentoring to Personal Care Attendants and other staff as appropriate in all aspects of providing personal care. Duties include providing on-site training and teaching proper personal care techniques of bathing, range of motion, dressing, meal preparation and transferring. This position also assists in suggesting alternative options that maintain and ensure a safe working environment, ensure quality care and promote health and safety while enhancing the consumer’s independence. The Safety Mentor will also be responsible for providing classroom trainings and office support.
High School diploma or GED required. Must possess basic math, reading, and writing skills. Must have advanced training in personal care tasks and safety such as COTA, LPN or training in other healthcare related field.
Minimum of five years paid experience in providing personal care is required. Previous experience in conducting classroom teaching and/or mentoring required.
Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be able to communicate with others effectively both verbally and in writing. Based on consumer needs, must have the ability to interpret nonverbal communications. Valid PA driver’s license required. Must have reliable transportation. Due to consumer needs, must be able to accommodate travel to remote locations that are not located near public transportation. Must be able to train in proper body mechanics and the use of durable medical equipment. Must have the ability to promote and support safety, conduct accident investigations and make recommendations and follow up on activities. Current certification as a DPW Investigator or willingness to successfully complete DPW Certified Investigator training.
