The Accessing Independence Team

Independent Living Services & Adult Enrichment

Accessing Independence is a division of UDS Foundation and provides In-Home Personal Care through our Independent Living Services company and an active life skills program for adults through our Adult Enrichment Program. These programs are under the direct oversight of the Accessing Independence Board of Directors.

Chuck Manners, Accessing Independence Board of Directors Chuck Manners Chairman

Chuck Manners has over 38 years experience in the communications field.  He brings valuable experience in public relations, marketing and management to his position as Chairman of the Board of Accessing Independence.  He has held this position since the board’s inception in March 2013. Manners is currently President and CEO of Godfrey Advertising.

Jon G. Walker, MD Vice President

Jon Walker, MD, has over 35 years of experience in the medical field and brings extensive experience and valuable knowledge to the Accessing Independence Board where he currently serves as Vice President. Jon has been a UDS Foundation and AI board member for (what committees? How long on UDS board?) Jon is a Viet Nam veteran and served as a United States Army Captain from 1969-1971 during active duty. Jon has been extremely active in non profit organizations including the Fulton Opera House, Demuth Foundation, Rotary Club of Lancaster and Lancaster Family YMCA.

Jesse Charles Director

Jesse Charles has worked for Financial and Business organizations for the past 25 years. He has brought an exceptional perspective to the Accessing Independence Board as a member who has utilized his abilities to the fullest. While attending Millersville University in 1983, Jesse fell out of a tree on the family farm and fractured his neck. He became a cervical 5-6 quadriplegic.  He spent six months at the Elizabethtown Rehabilitation Center. After rehab, Jesse transferred to Messiah College and graduated in 1987 with a degree in Business Administration. He has been on the AI Board for 2 years and has served on several committees and been an advocate at state hearings. He was a former employee of UCP of Lancaster.

Jane Hartin Director

Jane Hartin has 51 years of experience in the nursing profession and brings considerable healthcare experience to her Accessing Independence Board position.  Jane had been a UDS Board member and Direct Service Board member for 10 years.  Currently, Jane is a charge nurse on the day surgery unit at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital.  She has held many leadership roles in her nursing career. Jane has also been the coordinator of our gift wrap booth for over twenty years at Park City during the Christmas Holiday Season. The gift wrap booth is a major fund raiser for UDS Foundation.

Bonnie Jess Lopane Director

She holds a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation by CFRE International for the highest standards of professional competence and ethical practice in serving the philanthropic sector. Bonnie is a member of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP) and serves as a member of the AHP Foundation Board and the AHP Journal’s Advisory Council.  She brings a great wealth of knowledge in both fundraising and care for seniors to the Board of Directors of Accessing Independence. She also serves on AI’s Development Committee. Bonnie is a member of the Rotary Club of Lancaster since 2004, she co-chairs the Rotary Website Committee and serves as a member of the School District of Lancaster Projects Committee.

Jeffrey Renninger is Executive Vice President and Manager of Specialty Business Units for Susquehanna Bank since February 2012. Prior to that, Mr. Renninger served as President and Chief Operating Offices of Tower Bancorp, Inc. He has more than 25 years of industry experience and is one of the founders who established Graystone Bank in November of 2005.  Previous to establishing the organization, he was President of the Lancaster/Lebanon Region of Waypoint Bank.  Mr. Renninger has served as a Director of United Way of Lancaster County, Director of Pennsylvania College of Art, and Director of Bent Creek Country Club’s Finance Committee. He currently serves as a member of the executive committee of Junior Achievement of Central Pennsylvania, and is the past Chair of the Board. He is treasurer on the Board of the Manheim Township Library.  Mr. Renninger has been on the Board of Directors for Accessing Independence for 2 years.

Rebecca Williams is the Information Specialist for the Southeast ADA Center, a project of the Burton Blatt Institute of Syracuse University. She provides technical assistance and resources/referrals to callers from eight southeastern states on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Fair Housing Act, Air Carrier Access Act, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and other disability inquiries. Rebecca is a board member for Accessing Independence and also serves on the UDS Foundation Development Committee.
